Recently read Sam's Potty

by Barbro Lindgren to my Kindergartners. These are wonderful stories- there are a whole series of them originally published in Swedish and out of print now, but can be found at library sales, garage sales, Alibris, and Ebay . (Our little grandson, Peter, looks quite a bit like Sam)
So I brought in a real potty

that had come from my friend's grandmother's home. I showed it to them before I read the book and asked them if they knew what it was. Not a clue. So I told them about the "olden days" when there were no lights to switch on, no faucets in the house, no cars, and no nice bathrooms with toilets- these were the children's toilets! They were aghast! Then I read the delightful, charming story of Sam and his potty; and we started our next book.

Wow, interesting...
I always thought a potty was just a toilet. =)
