Billy and Blaze- so good to read!
October 9, 2006

If I am going to mention some good books to read to kids, or for kids to read to themselves, the Billy and Blaze series is way up there on my list. They are by C.W. Anderson, and have been reissued and can be bought on Amazon.
I bought quite a few of the "vintage" ones when our kids were young at the library book sales, and garage sales. Here are Blaze and the Forest Fire and Billy and Blaze.

Children will enjoy having these read aloud, even a 3 year old will listen to these! There are a whole series of the Blaze books, and C.W. Anderson also wrote a number of horse stories for older children, some can still be found in the library.

Again, Kate, thank you for a wonderful new site. Here is the e-mail I just sent off to try and find a book rich in memories and meaning.

"When my son was very young, just under 2, we were going through a very rough time. He became very attached to a very simple children's book about a fishing village in Portugal and the fishing families of a Portuguese village. I believe the book just described what the fishermen did fishing and mending their nets. It had simple but very nice drawings and I especially remember that there was a lot of pink and blue in the art work. I took the book out from a library in Santa Cruz, CA probably 1979/1980. My son was so attached to the book when we had to travel to Ohio for a few months we took it with us. But it did eventually get back to the Santa Cruz library when my son's father and I reunited and essentially lived happily ever after. It was such a traumatic time in our lives but that simple book helped my son and myself weather the storm. I have such fond memories of it but have never seen it again. thanks so much for this web site I really appreciate even the chance of finding this book again. Peggy Arballo, mwarballo@aol.com"

I've never heard of these so thanks for the recommendation, will be looking out for them.
